We have a number of high-end Microsoft Windows based workstations to help researchers visualise large data remotely.

How to get access?

Step1:

Send your request titled “Visualisation Windows Workstation Access Request” to help@pawsey.org.au with the completed application form. By submitting an application, you are agreeing to Pawsey Conditions of Use and follow the steps in Booking and using the workstations.

Step 2:

Your application will be assessed by one of the Pawsey Supercomputing staff and you will be contacted if further information is needed.

Step 3:

You will receive an invitation to create your Pawsey account, if you don't already have a Pawsey account.

Step 4:

Once your account is created, you will be provided with access to Windows Workstations. Follow the instructions on how to book and use the workstations.


Pawsey Conditions of use

Please see the Conditions of Use of Pawsey resources at https://support.pawsey.org.au/documentation/x/tIQs. In particular, please pay attention to the following,

Publications


All publications resulting from the use of Pawsey Supercomputing Centre facilities and communications infrastructure must acknowledge the Pawsey Supercomputing Centre. Addition of the following text to the paper acknowledgments will be sufficient:

“This work was supported by resources provided by the Pawsey Supercomputing Centre with funding from the Australian Government and the Government of Western Australia."

General


All researchers using Pawsey Facilities and communication infrastructure must have their own individual account. Sharing of identity, sharing of passwords for a specific identity and group (or project) identities are all strictly prohibited.

Network Policy


All traffic on the Pawsey network may be monitored, and network access to individuals and hosts may be terminated without notice, if network activity is considered inappropriate. Inappropriate use includes downloading or uploading of offensive or illegal or copyrighted content. The Pawsey network is not to be used for the sharing of music, movies or videos, nor for the purpose of connecting to Pawsey servers or external servers or organisations for which the user does not have authorised access. 


Booking and using the workstations

Invalid login attempts are monitored and you are allowed to enter wrong password two times within a 24 hour period; Your account will be locked when you enter your password wrongly for the third time. If your account got blocked, please send a "visualisation help request" to help@pawsey.org.au with the details of the machine.

We don't take any responsibility for the data stored on the workstation as we don't perform any data backup. It is your responsibility to backup your data.


Do's
  • Make sure to book the workstation that you want to use in Resource Reservation system.
  • Avizo users should book the Avizo license in Resource Reservation system in addition to the workstation.
  • Modify/remove your booking as per your intended use.
  • Sign-out your session when finished.
  • Copy your data to your Documents folder before starting visualisation.
  • Connect your laptop/desktop to a wired network.


Don'ts
  • Don't over-book the workstations.
  • Don't book more than one workstation at any given time.
  • Don't try to log into workstations that you haven't booked.
  • Don't disconnect after finished using the workstation; sign-out instead.
  • Don't load your data into visualisation application directly from your external hard drive.
  • Don't access the workstations via Wi-Fi.

FAQs
  1. I want to change my password or forgot my password. How to reset?

    If you need to change your Pawsey account password, visit https://support.pawsey.org.au/password-reset/; If you do not remember your old password, please rest it via https://support.pawsey.org.au/password-reset/?action=sendtoken.

  2. Avizo license is not activated, how can I activate Avizo license?
    "Activate Avizo" → "Use FNP license server" → type "license-server.pawsey.org.au" in the box (without quotes) → click "Activate"

  3. I am having issues with accessing the workstation. What should I do?
    Send your request with your issue details (e.g. screenshots, workstation number, error message, etc.) to help@pawsey.org.au
